How Do Indie Artists Get on the Radio?
Andrea Morris, the founder of AM to FM Promotions (www.amtofm.com), is one of Canada’s most respected radio promoters . Andrea has worked in the radio business for over 30 years across the U.S., U.K., and Canada. She started her career on-air at WXQR in Jacksonville, NC, as the overnight announcer, and rose to the position of music director. During her tenure, the station gained national attention for being a front runner in adding new music, and was elevated to reporting status. Andrea left the music business for a few years and moved to Los Angeles to work in market research. She returned to the industry in the U.K., where she was on-air at Picadilly Key 103 in Manchester, and several other stations across the country. She returned to the U.S. and became the afternoon drive announcer and music director at WNWV/THE WAVE in Cleveland, OH. The connections she made at that job allowed her to move into the position of regional radio promoter for IRS Records. She also worked with Discovery and Sire records before making the move to Toronto. Morris worked on air at MIX 99.9 in Toronto and then transitioned back to the label side of things, working as the national radio director for Song Corp and Linus Entertainment. In 2004, Morris launched AM to FM Promotions, and independent radio tracking company based out of Toronto.
